Intersection Manager
Populate critical intersection attributes and manage complex intersections and interchanges.
Intersection safety analysis depends on having accurate, complete intersection data — and building that database manually is time-consuming and error-prone. Intersection Manager automates the process: generating single-point intersection geometry, populating route and measure data, calculating angles of approach, and defining leg extents across your entire road network. The result is a spatially enabled intersection database aligned with FHWA's MIRE Fundamental Data Elements, ready to feed your safety analysis workflows.
Intersection Manager details
Automatically generate intersection geometry across the network
Intersection Manager creates a single-point intersection geometry at every road crossing in the GIS — without manual digitizing. Route and measure data are populated automatically from your LRS, and the tool calculates angles of approach and defines influence extents for each leg. The process can be run across the full network or targeted to specific areas as the road network changes.

Populate MIRE Fundamental Data Elements
Intersection Manager auto-populates the key MIRE FDEs recommended by FHWA from the single-point intersection geometry — including leg identities, major and minor route designations, angles of approach, and influence extents. Associated detail tables store additional MIRE attributes, giving agencies a structured, query-ready dataset that's aligned with federal safety data requirements.
Handle complex intersections, interchanges, and structures
Real-world networks include more than simple at-grade crossings. Intersection Manager provides tools to delineate complex intersections, interchanges, ramps, and grade-separated structures — and to filter out crossings that should be excluded from the safety database, such as grade-separated overpasses. Each intersection type can be configured to match your agency's definitions and business rules.
Keep intersection data current as the network evolves
Road networks change — new intersections are built, routes are redesigned, and geometries shift. Intersection Manager is designed to be run iteratively, so your intersection database stays synchronized with the underlying network over time. Configuration settings for source data inputs and effective dates make it straightforward to manage update cycles and maintain a reliable record of when each intersection was last reviewed.
